John R. Montgomery is the founder of West Group. He has been involved in all phases of the firm’s development since its founding in 2001.

Mr. Montgomery is a licensed California attorney and real estate broker.  He has broad knowledge and experience in real estate brokerage, construction, real estate finance, real estate taxation and real estate law. He has led West Group through all aspects of the investment process, including sourcing and screening investment opportunities, and due diligence, structuring, and negotiating transactions.

Mr. Montgomery has comprehensive working knowledge of residential and commercial brokerage, ground up development, land use-entitlement, apartment building investing, condo conversion, tenancy-in-common structures, rent control issues and San Francisco local law. Mr. Montgomery has unique relationships with community leaders, financial institutions, attorneys, investors, and industry professionals that enable him to create successful projects by structuring innovative partnerships and joint ventures, with all parties working together for the best possible solution.

Previously, Mr. Montgomery worked as a real estate attorney with Severson & Werson, a San Francisco based law firm. Prior to Severson & Werson, Mr. Montgomery worked with the Hofmann Company, a real estate development company and Bechtel Corporation, one of the largest privately held construction companies in the world. Mr. Montgomery has been actively involved in a wide array of sophisticated real estate transactions and is a published author.

Mr. Montgomery holds a B.S. in Construction Management from California Polytechnic University, San Luis Obispo and a J.D. from the Santa Clara University School of Law.
